Awesome!
This stuff is awesome. I use it in the morning, as part of my “beauty” treatment. It is super soft cream. Feels almost like putting whipped cream on your face. I love it. Afterward, my face just looks so radiant. Have been using it for about 2 weeks now and I just love the way it makes my face look.

I have been using the Olay products since about July 2006 and am very pleased. I use the Regenerist Night Recovery Moisturizing Treatment at night on my whole face and neck, after washing with Dove Regenerating Calming Night Soap (liquid, navy colored bottle) and I use Olay Smooth Skin Exfoliating Scrub about once or twice a week at night. In the morning, I use Avon ANew Eye Lift Cream around my eyes and then Olay Total Effects 7x Visible Anti-Aging Vitamin Complex Cream on my entire face and neck. I think this combo, particularly the Olay Regenerist products and Total Effects, have made me look YEARS younger–with the grace of God, of course. I added the Regenerist Night Recovery about 2 months ago, and it made a difference for me. Lots of people at work tell me I look younger, too. My skin feels great! It’s firm and velvet soft. And wait till I tell you, I have lost 53 pounds in the last 10 months! Why do you care? Well, my face should be sagging all over the place with that kind of a weight loss, especially since I carried that weight for years and my skin was well-stretched. I should need a crane just to hold the wrinkles up! Guess what??? It’s firm and velvet soft. I won’t say I don’t own a wrinkle, but they are very very minimal. I’ve had people tell me I don’t have wrinkles, too, but there are little tiny ones there hiding in the makeup. Oh, I’m 58, too–so don’t think I’m 25 and telling you I don’t have wrinkles like they tell you in those adds on TV.

Dec 2007: Still using it. It’s like giving your face a drink in the morning.

Guys: YOU can use this stuff too, if you want your face to look softer and firmer. (Just don’t tell the women. Most of them will talk about you like a dog. Not me, though. What the heck. I know there are some guys out there that actually care what they look like.)

I am mighty pleased with these Olay products, BUT, use them awhile. Nuthin’ happens overnight, Hon! (We call everybody Hon in Balmer, Merlin) (That translates to Baltimore, Maryland–sorry, I have an accent.)

Nov 2008–still using this in morning, in combination with other Olay and Victoria Principal products.

very nice
I have tried other creams for my face, and this one is the only one I have bought again. It keeps my skin soft and does not leave any sort of greasy residue, I highly recommend it.

Finally a product that works!
After spending hundreds of dollars over the years trying to find a moisturizer that did not irritate my sensitive skin or cause blemishes, I found this product. It is perfect for me. It has transformed my complexion. My skin is soft and even in tone. Now I have my mother and sister using it, and they love it just as much!

Magellan Crossover 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Road and Trail Navigator Sale Electronics

ProductMagellan Crossover 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Road and Trail Navigator

Crossover crosses over pretty well
One the whole, I like my M. Crossover. Generally speaking, it does everything I need it for in regard to GPS. I do not use mine for the audio or visual playback and do not care about those functions. To date, I have done nothing with the computer software either and cannot vouch for that aspect.

The best features to me were in having a GPS unit that I could use to plot courses in the car and yet have a GPS that would work well for hiking. I have driven all over north Texas with the unit and had it mark my travels in both the road mode and outdoor (hiking/contour map) mode. I have not used it in the Marine mode. With just a few exceptions, it has had all the roads I have been on. The exceptions were a couple of very small roads in the middle of nowhere and roads in a brand new development. No surprise. Strangely, it had some dirt roads that I would not have expected. So that was really handy.

In the outdoor mode, I have plotted various key points and had it track my progress, both while driving and while hiking. It has done this all relatively well.

Before I go further, let me say that if I lost this unit, I would not hesitate in getting another. However, it is not a perfect unit and has some shortcomings that are a bit of a bother, but not fatal at all. It has been my experience that all GPS units seem to have various shortcomings, often varying depending on the type of intended use of the unit. I do think the Crossover, with its shortcomings, does enough of the cross over functions to cover my needs sufficiently well and I do not currently see any other units on the market that match it in such versatility.

I have run the unit on battery (most of the time) and while charging in the car. I have charged it with the 120v outlet charger as well. They promise 8 hours of run time and so far I have run as much as 6 on full screen brightness and not run out of power. The 8 hour estimate seems good.

On my recreational property, I have plotted the locations of the property corners, gates, and other specific locations. Subsequent return trips have the show very good match between my previous plots and locations, to just a few feet, well within the unit’s specifications. It performs consistently well in this regard, as it should.

The shortcomings…
In the 150+ hours of use with probably 80 or 90 start-ups, I have had it fail to properly boot 4 times. This necessitated the use of the reset switch on the side and after resetting, the unit booted fine.

The green rubber ring around the unit is to help absorb shock if dropped and it probably does help to some extent (I have dropped it once). However, it is prone to slip off when carried in a pocket or pack during periods of lots of motion and the grippy aspect of the rubber can make it hard to extract the unit from a snug pocket if one wants the rubber ring remaining on the unit.

The on screen controls vary with the mode that it is in and as such, the features I like in one mode are not in the same place in the other mode and that can be a bit annoying if you go between modes on a regular basis. This is especially true of the brightness function that is onscreen on the map page in the outdoor mode but not in the car mode.

You can’t plot points in the car mode, but if you are in the car mode, the map does not show the icons for gas/food etc. that it does in the outdoor mode. That seemed a bit counter-intuitive.

I have medium-sized guy fingers and sometimes find that I have not been able to precisely press an onscreen button properly. Maybe I need more practice or smaller fingers.

Even on the brightest setting and while out in the sunlight, it can be hard to see the image on the screen. As long as sun is not shining directly on the screen in the car, it does well enough.

As with all GPS units I have used or experienced in the past, letting the GPS decide your route from point A to B should not mean that the traveler should blindly accept the route as the best option, even with the various choices given (fastest, shortest, most use of freeways, etc.). It will get you from point A to B, but what it asserts is the best route may actually be much less than optimal.

I don’t know of any other way to charge the unit other than with the accessories provided. You can’t take the unit on a 2 day hike and use it all the time without running down the battery and you can’t change out the battery. It would be nice if there was a separate battery pack that could be jacked in or a solar charger. Otherwise, the unit is somewhat limited to either sporadic use on multi-day hikes or day hiking because of the battery limitation.

Lastly, while it can track something like 14 satellites, it can lose track of them as well. While hiking in Big Bend with the mountains, signals came and went a lot. It was a bit annoying. No doubt this will happen with other units as well, but the access to 14 didn’t seem to make it keep track any more often or continually than with other GPS units I have used.

As I noted above, I would buy this unit again if I had to replace the current unit. I harped on the shortcomings because if you have read Magellan’s promo for the Crossover, then you know what it can do and it has been my experience that it pretty well does what is claimed. I only point out the shortcomings such that other potential buyers can make a better informed decision.

It gets me there… but…
It has gotten me to where I wanted or needed to go. That said, however, I’ve had one main difficulty. It has locked up on me several times now. This has happened when I was programming the unit, and/or when I had just turned on the unit. It has not locked up on me during a trip. I turned the unit off and then back on, only for it to do it again and again. I discovered that you have to move the reset switch to off, and then back to on. That seems to do it. If you were actively tracking something (using the outdoor topo features) at the time that it locked up, you will lose your trip information (speed, length of trip, time of trip). Of course, having a brand new unit lock up is not acceptable. When it doesn’t lock up, it gets me to my destination. If you drive off the course it tells you ‘calculating route’ almost immediately and tells you what to do next. POI’s (points of interest): I don’t know where they get the data for these, but some of it is really old. The first place I told it to find me was my local gas stations. The first one on the list is one that’s been closed and long gone for a minimum of 10 years. A brewpub it took me to had changed owners and names over a year-and-a-half ago, although it got me to the address where it was!

This is my first GPS and it’s ‘fun’. And, it’s very intuitive. I was able to figure out most everything without having to get to reading or checking out the manual. That’s really good in my book, because I’m a ‘manual reader’. The voice is female and pretty easy to hear (vehicle navigation only has the voice). It has a headphones jack which I connected to the ‘aux in’ of my audio system in the car, and so get the voice through the car speakers.

I still much prefer printed maps to a GPS. But, there’s a lot to be said for a device that’s your navigator, when you are driving somewhere alone. If it didn’t have the locking up problem, I’d rate it 4 stars. And, if the POI’s were more current (I don’t know if they ever even upgrade/revise these), I’d rate it 5 stars.

Finally Just What I wanted
I’ve had a magellan map 330 for forever, and I wanted a color screen, a gps that stayed on the road (not 100 feet or more off the road)and annouced directions. I’ve used the magellans in rental cars, and was happy with their capabilty. The crossver meets my expectations, and its great to have all the maps as part of the cost. I am planning to buy the enhanced topo maps, because I use the unit for hiking as well. About 8 hours of battery time. My only issue is why do I need a gps to play music or show pictures. Magellan stick to what you know.

The OtterBox Commuter Series case offers the best of both worlds; incorporating elements from the rugged Defender Series line with the silicone, skin-like Impact Series line to create a slick case designed with your style in mind. It’s protection without the bulk. The exposed silicone corners dissipate impact away from the device for additional bump and shock protection and the smooth outer layer allows the case to easily slide into your pocket or purse. All buttons are fully functional through the case and the audio jack and USB port are accessible through silicone plugs.

Customer Reviews:

Worth the extra $$……..
I was shopping for cases to replace the cheap silicone case that I’d been using. I stummbled upon the Otterbox series. I almost purchased the “Impact” series, but then I again stummbled upon the “Defender” and “Commuter” series. After looking at reviews I purchased the “Commuter” case. It is a 2-ply system. The first is the silicon case that goes around phone. The second is a sturdy plastic outer shell that wraps a majortiy of the silicone inner layer. This is much better protection than just having the silicone. It also makes better handling of the phone. It did also come with a screen protector, but it did not go on smooth and I really didn’t need it so I tossed it.
If you need to **really, really** protect your phone from alot of everyday abuse-spend the $40-50 and get the “Defender” case..This case has the plastic core for the first wrap on phone followed by the outter beefed up silicone outter protection-kind of reverse from “Commuter” but the plastic wrap is all around phone.
If you only need pretty decent protection then the $20-25 on this “Commuter” case is worth it. **All cutouts fit precisley over the buttons,mic,earpiece,etc…..***
The $10-15 on the “Impact” series is pricey for just a silicone case that offers very limited protection.
If you need more check out “Otterbox” reviews on Youtube…..

Great Case for E71. More expensive than others but worth it!
I don’t write too many reviews but felt compelled to write this one because this case is so good. I have had this case on my phone for 3 months now. I love my Nokia E71 and want to keep it for a long time. I tried a “leather” case that had clear plastic over the screen, and it ended up scratching my screen protector (glad I had that installed!). I searched for other cases and almost bought a standard silicon case but just didn’t like how “sticky” they feel when trying to put in one’s pocket and how they don’t always fit tightly.

This case solves both problems. The silicone protects the phone nicely, while the plastic “shell” provides reinforcement increasing the protection and giving it a very solid feel. With the plastic shell, the silicone fits tightly, and one can insert the phone in one’s pocket without much problem. None of the keys on the keyboard are obstructed, all of the buttons and ports work just fine with this case on. I happened to drop the phone for the first time this week on a concrete basement floor, and the case did it’s job! Phone is working just fine with no damage/scratches.

The only issues I have with this case are:
- I would like a little more of the silicon to be revealed on the back of the case to help prevent sliding off of tables, desks, etc.
- The area along the upper-left side near the memory card slot/USB port and the screen is a little bit too thin and makes me wonder if this will rip off eventually. I think there is plenty of room to increase the material here while sill allowing for access to these ports.

Good, but the Defender is better
I purchased my OtterBox Commuter case to protect my first-ever smartphone: a Nokia E71. I researched the different OtterBox offerings and decided to save a few bucks by purchasing this one instead of the Defender, but I probably should have splurged. Primarily for the additional screen protection offered by the Defender series, which in turn also gives a tiny bit more protection to the keypad by putting a ‘bridge’ of sorts (horizontal crossbar underneath the screen and above the keypad) that might take some impact if the phone hit the ground face first. The Commuter doesn’t have this and after I played with the phone a bit I thought about how great it was and how awful I’d feel if I dropped it. “Live and learn?”

The case was very easy to put on, feels good in the hand and came with a clear screen cover that went on easily once I viewed the tutorial on ‘how to’ on the OtterBox website. The cover to the power jack would not seat and came off within days, which kind of frustrated me a bit, but realistically, I would want easy access to that port anyway so why cover it?

It would be great if OtterBox came out with these in another color, but hey, I’m a girl and I like things in every color. Overall, this is a good choice for a case to protect your Nokia E71, however I’ll be on the lookout for ‘perfect for me’ in the future. I hope it’s from OtterBox…

Desperate Housewives - Season Four
“Desperate Housewives” made its debut in 2004 to rave reviews and high Nielsen ratings. Season one of the show is considered a modern classic. For most people, the same couldn’t be said for seasons two and three. Many people though the second and third seasons were disappointing. I thought the second season was good (though not great), and the third season was a slight improvement over season two (though it still didn’t top the first season). But after watching the entire fourth season of “Desperate Housewives”, the show is back on track. This is the best season since the first.

Season four of the show about those housewives from the fictional Wisteria Lane (located in the town of Fairview) was the most interesting, most intriguing, and most entertaining season since season one. Many of the same major characters are back: Susan, Lynette, Bree, Gabrielle, Edie, Mike, Carlos, Tom, Orson, and narrator Mary Alice. But what really makes the fourth season of “Desperate Housewives” so great is the addition of a new character: Katherine Mayfair. As season four begins, we find out that Katherine used to live on Wisteria Lane many years ago but has now moved back to the neighborhood with her much younger husband Adam and daughter Dylan. And yes, we can tell from the first episode that Katherine is hiding a deep dark secret that will eventually unfold as the season progresses. Some of the other major storylines throughout season four include: Lynette battling cancer (which she discovered late in season three); Susan (after marrying Mike at the end of season three) finds out that she’s pregnant; Bree faking a pregnancy to protect daughter Danielle’s real pregnancy; Mike developing a drug problem when he becomes addicted to pills; Gabrielle finding marriage to town mayor Victor Lang to be so dull that she starts having an affair with ex-husband Carlos; and probably the biggest story of the year, Wisteria Lane being destroyed by a tornado.

That tornado episode, titled “Something’s Coming” (episode #9), was easily the best episode of the season and the second best episode overall (the very best episode of “Desperate Housewives” still remains that supermarket hostage crisis episode from season three). This was reportedly the most expensive episode of “Desperate Housewives” to date, obviously since special effects played a big part in it. But just like that supermarket hostage episode, it’s a thrilling and entertaining episode that keeps you on the edge of your seat as you wonder who will come out of it alive or dead.

The stars of this show once again do a great job just as they have in the previous three seasons. Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria Parker, and Nicolette Sheridan are fine as usual, but in season four they get upended by the newcomer to Wisteria Lane. Two-time Emmy winner Dana Delany (”China Beach”) is an absolute standout as Katherine Mayfair. There’s an interesting back-story involving Delany and “Desperate Housewives” when the show’s creator Marc Cherry was casting the principal roles back in 2004. Cherry originally offered Delany the role of Bree, but turned it down since she claimed it was too similar to a role she had on a short-lived TV series she starred on a few years earlier (that show was called “Pasadena”, which aired on FOX). But Cherry never gave up on her. After he created new character Katherine he wanted Delany for the part, and this time she accepted. It’s interesting because Katherine is kind of like Bree, but only darker. And Delany stepped right into the role of Katherine and made it her own. I think this was similar to what Cherry and the rest of the “Desperate Housewives” writers were trying to do two years ago when they created the Betty Applewhite character for season two and failed miserably. This time they got it right, and the writers should be congratulated for not messing up the Katherine Mayfair storyline. This was an intriguing storyline throughout season four, and it ends perfectly in the final episode. And what makes it even better, Delany’s Katherine will be back next season.

My only complaint about “Desperate Housewives: The Complete Fourth Season” is that the season was shorter than usual. You can blame that on all the writers from the small screen to the big screen for going on strike for three months, which ended shutting down the production on not only “Desperate Housewives”, but all shows on television. And that was kind of a bummer, because a few more storylines had to be cut short. For example, there was a very funny storyline involving a gay male couple that moved to Wisteria Lane, and I think the writers originally had planned to expand this storyline throughout the season. But after the writer’s strike ended and there was only room for seven episodes, the writers couldn’t expand this storyline has they had planned. Whether or not this storyline will be expanded for season five remains to be seen.

And when season five debuts in the fall of 2008, it’ll be interesting to see what will be going on. In the final moments of the last episode of season four, the action flash forwards to five years later, which I presume is where the show will pick up when season five starts. And it’ll be interesting to see what’s going on, because “Desperate Housewives” leaves us dangling with another bizarre cliffhanger: who’s the man (and it’s not Mike) that’s kissing Susan in the final scene?

Back to the basics
In season 4 of DH we see the show going back to the basics, to the thing that made fans love DH: the friendships. The friendships of Lynette, Susan, Bree and Gabrielle, as well as each individual character, were tested over and over again and they endured. It was this quality of enduring friendship amongst women that makes this show so good.

Season 3 dealt with each women independently, barely interacting with the other friends and thus we lost that which made the show worthwhile, their interactions. Season 4 takes another route and shows the women provide each other a strong support system. Lynette relies on her friends and family to go through cancer, Bree deals with faking a pregnancy, Susan must deal with her marriage with Mike and Gabrielle must decide between Carlos and Victor.

We also see the introduction of another character, Katherine Mayfair (and of course, her many secrets which deserve to be a character all of their own). She was such an excellent character that I instantly liked her, secrets and all. Katherine was a former resident of Wisteria Lane and a friend of Susan’s. She has a ton of secrets and a way to challenge each and everyone of our Wisteria Lane ladies.

Tornadoes, blackmail (tons of blackmail), ex-husbands, drugs, maniacs, and tons of humor. This is one of the best DH seasons to date.

Terrific extras make an already good season a must-have set for fans.
There’s little else to add to what others have said of the season itself. Instead, I wanted to note the great extras that make this DVD set a nice buy. Several are of the same type as previous season sets:

There are audio commentaries for six episodes, the first by Marc Cherry and some writers with nice tidbits (season 3 was to end with the revelation of Bree faking her pregnancy but ABC didn’t think that was dramatic enough so they came up with Edie’s “Hanging”). The other five are “Couple commentaries” with nice banter between the actors and some fun stuff (like Marcia Cross marveling at how her cleveage was so big early in the season).

“Desperate From Beginning to End” looks at the creation of an episode, this one the tornado ep. It notes what a challenge it was with all the stunts and special effects work and how amazed they were ABC let them destory the set like that. It’s a great insight to how they created the amazing story.

Hanging with the Men of Wisteria Lane” has the male actors bowling and sharing stories about the show.

“Cherry Picked” are Marc Cherry’s half-dozen favorite scenes from the season.

There are also a dozen deleted scenes, many filler but some interesting and fun. This includes the alternate ending for the season finale and it’s clear that Cherry made the right move changing it.

So overall, great extras flesh the season out and make this rebounding series back on its game.

Amazon.com
In the fourth season of Desperate Housewives, the ladies of Wisteria Lane are back–all the ladies, as the previous season’s cliffhanger turned out to be a red herring. Both Susan (Teri Hatcher) and Gabriella (Eva Longoria Parker) are facing difficulties in their new marriages: Mike (James Denton) turns to drugs to keep up with his work schedule, and politician Victor (John Slattery) seems less exciting than former husband Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira), who is still attached to Edie (Nicollette Sheridan). Bree (Marcia Cross) and Orson (Kyle McLachlan) are still faking a pregnancy to cover for Danielle (Joy Lauren), and Lynnette (Felicity Huffman) is fighting both cancer and Tom’s (Doug Savant) devilspawn daughter (Rachel G. Fox) while their pizzeria gets a new rival. Adding the new wrinkle to the season were two veteran TV actors, Dana Delany (China Beach) and Nathan Fillion (Firefly) as Katherine Mayfair and her new husband Adam. Katherine lived on Wisteria Lane years ago, but daughter Dylan (Lyndsy Fonseca) seems to have no memory of that past, or of her then-best friend, Julie (Andrea Bowen). And what roles will be played by shadows from Katherine’s and Adam’s past (Gary Cole and Melora Walters)? Delany and Fillion were great additions–Katherine begins a homemaking rivalry with Bree, and Adam’s deadpan gynecologist is a gem. But the centerpiece of the season (and which coincided almost exactly with the series’ hiatus due to the 2007-2008 writers’ strike, which trimmed the season to 17 episodes) is a cataclysmic tornado that wreaks havoc on both the houses and the people of the neighborhood. The season concludes in a number of showdowns, then a surprising conclusion that promised an intriguing new angle for season 5. With Kathryn Joosten as Mrs. McCluskey, Kevin Rahm and Tuc Watkins as Wisteria Lane’s first same-sex couple, and Justine Bateman as the Solizs’ roomer with a secret. DVD features include deleted scenes, creator Marc Cherry’s favorite moments, and a 26-minute look at the making of the tornado episode. Bonus points for a DVD insert that presents Wisteria Lane as one of Edie’s real-estate brochures. –David Horiuchi

Amazon.com
Laughter and hearty guffaws abound in this comical look at 37-year-old career woman Kate Holbrook’s (30 Rock’s Tina Fey) desperate attempts to have a baby. Never mind that she’s not married and has never been involved in a serious relationship; Kate wants a baby and will stop at virtually nothing to get one. After failed attempts at broaching the concept of conception with first dates and trying artificial insemination with the help of a sperm bank, Kate finds out that her t-shaped uterus leaves her with only a one in a million chance of conceiving a child. Adoption doesn’t work out and she’s left with the distasteful option of hiring a surrogate mother. Enter Chaffee Bicknell’s (Sigourney Weaver) surrogate service and her recommendation of the working-class Angie Ostrowiski (Saturday Night Live’s Amy Poehler) who, with her common-law husband Carl (Dax Shepard), is just desperate enough to take on the job in order to make some money, and the stage is set for baby making. As fate would have it, Angie and Carl break up just after Angie announces she’s pregnant and Angie ends up moving in with Kate. Unfortunately, the two are completely incompatible and what ensues is a hysterical struggle to coexist while clashing over everything from proper nutrition to stroller selection, hair dye, and delivery options. Further complicating matters is Kate’s budding relationship with ex-lawyer and juice-store owner Rob (Greg Kinnear), who just happens to be morally opposed to the whole concept of surrogate parenting. Finally, there’s the question of just how fully Angie embraces the virtue of honesty. It’s the juxtaposition of opposing viewpoints–so boldly stated, humorously set, and blatantly exploited–that makes this witty comedy so darn funny. Expect graphic references, raunchy humor, and a whole lot of laughter. –Tami Horiuchi

it’s a terrible flick–but it makes a wonderful rehearsal…
Baby Mama is a cute film with a few good laughs and some essentially entertaining comedy. It’s by no means going to be “movie of the year;” but it isn’t a flop, either. Baby Mama gets its strength from some excellent acting and the plot moves along at a good pace. My basic regret is that it could have been so much funnier than it was. It is an ambitious film, too, in that it tackles a serious issue through comedy. Sadly, it doesn’t completely accomplish either goal. Sigh.

When the action begins, career woman Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey) realizes that her biological clock is ticking fast and she doesn’t have the one thing to make her feel truly happy and complete–a baby. Everywhere Kate goes, she sees babies and she adores them. Eventually, Kate finds out that she can’t have a baby even through artificial means; and then she goes to a fancy agency run by Chaffee Bicknell (Sigourney Weaver) to find a surrogate mother.

Naturally, Chaffee Bicknell reassures Kate that the $100,000 fee for getting a top “quality” woman to carry her baby for nine months is well worth it–and then Chaffee steers Kate right toward a somewhat sleazy woman named Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler) who is posing as a model woman to carry another woman’s baby. Angie’s common-law husband/boyfriend Carl (Dax Shepard) isn’t any more sophisticated or much better than Angie.

Time goes by and Kate and Angie live together when Angie has a break up with Carl. This provides mild comic relief with the predictable conflicts two people face when one (Kate) is a highly educated, straight laced and uptight career woman while the other (Angie) lives for singing along with her “American Idol” video game while munching constantly on potato chips, eating all types of junk food and even drinking! And yes, there’s a bit more comic relief one night when Angie and Kate go out dancing–but it’s just not as funny as it could have been. Sigh.

Of course, the plot can go anywhere from here. Will Kate’s baby arrangement work out? Will Angie and Carl ever divulge their huge secret to Kate? What about Angie’s pregnancy–how does Kate help out with that? No plot spoilers here, folks–watch the movie and find out!

Look for a great performance by Tina Fey as Kate; and Greg Kinnear gives a terrific performance as Rob, a guy Kate becomes romantically involved with. Steve Martin also fits in well as Barry, Kate’s boss at the health-food company.

Overall, Baby Mama gets a pat on the back from me for some good aspects–I liked the acting and the plot moves along well. However, as a comedy it falls short of my expectations although the subplots involving Carl and Angie’s “secret” and Kate’s romance with Rob are fairly well done. Take in this movie on a rainy afternoon if you’ve already seen some better films first. Baby Mama is one flick you should see–but only if you get a completely free opening in your schedule. Walk, but don’t run to see this film.

“Baby Momma” — Cute Flick!
This is another flick my 15 year old granddaughter drug me to, kicking and screaming (practically). It sounded DUMB, but she kept whining and I caved in. Well, guess what? I LOVED it! I was laughing so hard she kept banging me all through the movie to shut me up (saw it in the theater).

I see it got some less-than-wonderful reviews, and, as we know, everybody has different opinions. It begins with a single 37-year old career woman who is suddenly bitten by the baby bug and she knows her biological clock is ticking. She tries finding a “donor,” but that seems to scare away her dates. She tries a sperm bank, looking for a suitable specimine who looks like he might produce a handsome child. Then she considers invetro but the doc tells her she probably can’t get pregnant anyway because her uterus is T shaped. This leads her to seek out a surrogate mother to carry her child for her.

Now I agree, this doesn’t really sound funny but it is. Tina Fey is great as the wanna-be momma. A yoga version of Steve Martin with a long ponytail is her boss as she becomes Vice President of Development of a large organic health food store chain. Sigorney Weaver runs the surrogate agency and for a cool $100K, will fix you up with a “thoroughly screened” surrogate :-). I don’t know everyone’s name but the surrogate is a hoot, and her and Tina clash constantly, even to the point where they have to both attend a conflict support group. The surrogate has a greedy boyfriend, too. Greg Kinnear turns up in the movie, too and I just love him in the movies. The friendly doorman at Tina’s hotel has a cool part, too. It’s really a great movie and has a lot of fine actors in it. Kathy W gives this a big thumbs up!

this movie was FUNNY!
The theater i saw it in was completely full, a huge surprise because I wasn’t expecting a big interest in the film and there were severe storms outside. But the movie was a huge surprise, I laughed the whole time at the mixture of silly gags and very smart humor. The whole audience loved it.

And as much as I’ve loved all the raunchy comedies out lately, this movie was the PERFECT Anti-Apatow.

Tina and Amy had great chemistry and the supporting cast was great, including a decent performance from Steve Martin and a hilarious character performance from Sigourney Weaver.

The BEST blu-ray player made
If you want the top on the line blu-ray player the Sony S2000ES is the one to get. Extremely well made…there is a reason why the ES line has a 5 year parts and labor warranty and others are just 1 year. Having owned other Sony ES line players I have always been impressed with the picture and build quality. I have always found the ES line worth paying more for and this player is no exception.

I have a high end HDtv and Standard Definition (upconverting using HDMI) of the Sony ES2000 is beautiful….I have played some SD DVDs that look better than some HD blu-rays I have seen. And remember SD DVDs will be around for a long time and that is most of what you will be viewing until more and more titles come out in HD.
Do not buy if you do not have an HDMI input in your TV.
It would be like buying a Ferrari and just driving it to the Super Market.

Good if it works!
The picture quality of this player is outstanding. However, on first purchase it had some distortion in the sound of one channel, wouldn’t load discs on occasion, and very slow. We sent it back, got it serviced.

We got the machine back and a couple months later it completely quit working. We returned it again and Sony sent us a refurbished unit. This one is starting to skip now when playing CDs.

Oh Well, Guess we’ll try again. It’s only a $1300 machine.

You want the best? You got it for Blu-Ray, anyway!
I had no idea what “perfection” of “perfect” would be, but after years of using blu-ray on sub-par players like the Samsung and the Playstation 3 (not a bad player, and it doubles as a great game system, to boot!), I was looking for a player that was faster, cooler, and did not use Bluetooth as a remote (like the PS3…nice in some situations, not nice for integrating into a home theater system), I found a great deal on this player, and I have been blown away by both its’ build quality and its’ picture. It IS markedly more accurate and “lifelike” than the PS3, and is on a completely new level from any of the other players I have tried, even though most of them “get the job done”. The player is a simple joy to use, although I’m concerned about the lack of an Ethernet connection on the back for easy updating…here’s hoping sony will release updates as downloadable disc images WITHOUT CHARGE. The PS3 was so easy to update when connected to a network on the internet. So far it hasn’t been needed, but we all know how these things turn out. Also, the remote is not backlit, which isn’t a big deal for me given that it’ll be integrated into my Universal remote system, BUT, c’mon now, this is a $1000 plus player!

Those few gripes notwithstanding, this player is truly the best Blu-Ray out there. I have a huge Blu-Ray library, and it plays them all with ease, booting them very quickly and is very responsive to remote commands. The HDMI setup is quite simple, and I’m blown away by the sound and picture, even when compared to other Blu-Ray players. If you’re looking for the best, then this is it. If you want a very very good player and wouldn’t mind having some “game”, then the PS3 is a very close second. Just be sure to mount the PS3 in the open air…it gets MUCH MUCH hotter than any player I’ve ever used, and doesn’t work well in a rack system. I’ve had no trouble to date with heat and this machine, however.

Sony, being the creator of the Blu-Ray format and all, knows what they’re doing, and this player is certainly the pinnacle of their Blu-Ray successes. The format beats out HD in almost all cases with everything else being equal, and this player really takes advantage of the wonder that is TRUE high definition. This player doesn’t get in the way of the film’s experience, and that’s the true measure of a great, not just good, piece of home theater equipment.

One caveat that probably need not be mentioned: this player really shines at its’ best on a top-notch video system, but still because of its’ high build quality and fast response, I’d recommend it for any system. Just compare it to other players and you’ll see what I mean.
